Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Teams released today. The Cru women placed one player on the All-Conference First Team, placed three players on the All-Conference Second Team, had one Third Team selection and a pair of Honorable Mention All-Conference picks. Freshman Camryn Powell also took Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year honors.

Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team fell behind early and could not climb out of that early hole as the Cru women fell to Hardin-Simmons 5-0 in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Saturday in Abilene. The loss ends UMHB’s season with a 12-6 record. Hardin-Simmons improves to 17-1 on the season and the Cowgirls advance to tomorrow’s championship match.

Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team used a timely goal from Erin Salyer and a solid defensive effort to post a 1-0 victory over East Texas Baptist in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Abilene. The UMHB women improve to 12-5 on the season with the victory and the Cru women posted the first ASC Tournament win in the history of the program. The loss ends ETBU’s season at 10-7 overall.

Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team will open play at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament later this morning. The Cru is 11-5-0 overall and 10-3-0 in ASC play and the UMHB women set a new school single-season record for overall victories and conference wins. The Cru is the #4 seed in the tournament and will face #5 seed East Texas Baptist University (10-6-0, 9-3-0 ASC) in today’s first round at 11:00 AM. The winner of that game will advance to tomorrow’s semifinals to face tournament host and #1 seed Hardin-Simmons University (16-1-0, 12-0-0 ASC) in an 11:00 AM match. UMHB beat East Texas Baptist University 3-0 in the regular season meeting between these two teams back in September in Belton. RICHARDSON, Texas ––Hardin-Simmons University posted a perfect 12-0 record against league competition to win the regular season title and seal the right host its seventh straight American Southwest Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, to be held Nov. 6-8 at HSU Soccer Complex in Abilene, Texas.   The entire six-team, single elimination event will be available for fans through live statistics, while Sunday’s championship game will also have live audio. All links can be found on the “Tournament Central” page on the conference’s website, www.ASCsports.org.   Head coach Marcus Wood’s Cowgirls (16-1), winners of the last six ASC titles and 11 overall, will receive a first-round bye. HSU enters with a 16-game winning streak and has not lost to a conference opponent in 129 straight games. The University of Texas at Tyler (12-4), which reached the ASC title game in 2007, locked up the No. 2 seed and will receive the other first-round bye.   Mississippi College (11-5-2) will be the No. 3 seed because of a head-to-head tie-breaker advantage over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-5), which will be the No. 4 seed. East Texas Baptist University (10-6) is the No. 5 seed, while 2002 ASC champion University of Texas at Dallas (7-7-4) secured the sixth seed. UTD reached the ASC championship game last year.   Friday’s first-round matchups will be UMHB against ETBU at 11 a.m., with the winner getting HSU in Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal. MC and UTD will duel on Friday at 2 p.m., with the victor going against UT Tyler at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals. Athletes of the Week
Max Taylor
Football
Max has been named of 112 finalists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He has helped organize the UMHB Sole 2 Soul campaign each of the past two years. That campaign has helped raise nearly $3,300 and four boxes of shoes for donation to orphans in Haiti. Max is also a Preseason All-American and one of the team leaders for the Cru football program on and off the field.
Sara Hayward
Women's Volleyball
Sara has been elected to serve as President of the UMHB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The junior is also a standout on the court for the Cru volleyball team and she will be counted on to serve as a team leader in addition to her duties as SAAC President.
