Men's Tennis places seven on ASC All-West Division Teams

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division teams released today. The Cru had put two singles players and two double teams on the All-West Division Second Team. UMHB had three singles players and a doubles team earn Honorable Mention All-West Division. Cru senior Josh Pownall was also voted West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
 
Will Summers and John Martin took Second Team All-West Division honors in singles play. Summers, a junior from Belton High School, was voted in at #1 singles. Summers posted a 7-6 dual match record in that position this spring, but was 4-1 in ASC West Division play. Martin, a freshman from Kyle Lehman High School, was 9-7 at #6 singles for the Cru men this spring.
 
The doubles teams of Collin Davies and T.J. Kittrell and Jimmy Turner and Martin also took Second Team All-West Division honors. Pownall, a sophomore from Pasadena, and Kittrell, a freshman from Dallas Christian High School, posted a 9-7 record at #2 doubles for the Cru. Turner, a sophomore from Richmond Travis High School, teamed with Martin to record an 8-5 mark in #3 doubles this year
 
Pownall, Collin Davies and Garrett Pekar earned Honorable Mention All-West Division honors in singles play. Pownall, a senior from Bryan High School, went 6-7 at #2 singles for the Cru this spring. He also earned West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year honors. Davies posted a 10-5 overall record at #5 singles and went 5-1 in ASC West Division play. Pekar, a senior from Granger High School, went 8-8 at #3 singles this spring.
 
The doubles team of Pownall and Summers also earned Honorable Mention All-West Division at #1 doubles. That duo paired for a 9-6 record in that position for the Cru this year.
 
The UMHB men finished 9-6 overall and went 5-1 in ASC West Division play this spring. The Cru advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the third straight year before falling to U.T.-Dallas 5-0 in the opening round.
 
Erich Bein of Hardin-Simmons was named West Division Most Valuable Player and McMurry's Casjen Rico was voted West Division Freshman of the Year. HSU head coach Shane Williford was named West Division Coach of the Year.
