Tyler, TX – Rain pushed the start of the event back one day, so the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's and women's tennis teams had to wait until Friday to open play at the American Southwest Conference Individual Tournaments in Tyler.
In women's flight one singles,
Brittni Fausett had a first-round bye and then topped Whitney Lewis of the University of the Ozarks 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.
AshLee Bilbo posted a pair of victories in flight two singles. Bilbo beat Shelbey Thompson of Schreiner University 6-4, 6-0 and then knocked off #3 seed Joan Burks of Howard Payne 6-2, 6-3.
In flight three singles,
Chaley Shiffler drew a first-round bye before beating Abby Bassie of Mississippi College 6-1, 6-3.
Angelie Juaneza drew a bye in flight four, then fell to Karyn Swink of Schreiner 6-0, 6-0. Juaneza would post a consolation victory over Mollie Wilkinson of Ozarks 6-1, 6-0.
Hannah Warren followed a bye in flight five with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over HPU's Larissa Lynsky.
Elizabeth Ostroff had a bye in flight six and then beat LeTourneau's Brittany Cowan 6-0, 6-0.
In flight seven, Paolo Nunez opened with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Schreiner's Madeline Scotch before falling to Emily Evans of U.T.-Tyler 6-2, 6-1.
Haley Loftus drooped a 7-6(3), 6-3 decision to Schreiner's Brooke Ohlman before posting a 6-0, 6-3 win over ETBU's Savannah Higginbotham in consolation action. In flight eight singles, Shanice Montana-Graham fell to U.T.-Tyler's Katy Zagurski after drawing a first-round bye.
Tawnie Yeaw opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Candyce Henwood of U.T.-Tyler and then beat LeAnan White of Ozarks 6-0, 6-0.
On the men's side, John Contreras fell to Schreiner's Thomas Lozano 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 in the opening round of flight eight singles. In flight nine, Leslie Coleman dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Greg Nelson of Texas Lutheran University in the first round.
The tournament is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday in Tyler with completion of all of the singles and doubles flights in men's and women's action.
