KALAMAZOO, Michigan – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor tennis player
Brittni Fausett will open play in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Individual National Championships Thursday morning. But the Cru senior will travel to Michigan without knowing who she will face in her opening match. The draw for the NCAA Individual Tournament will not be released until Wednesday, following completion of the NCAA Division III Team Tennis National Championships.
Fausett, a senior from Cameron Yoe High School, is appearing in her second National Championship of the school year. She became the first UMHB singles player to advance to the ITA Small College National Championships in the fall and finished third in that event. Fausett is also the first UMHB singles player selected to compete in the 32-player field in the NCAA Division III Individual National Championships. Fausett will open play in the single elimination event with a 7:00 AM Central Time opening round match on Thursday and will also play a quarterfinal match at 11:00 AM Central Time on Thursday if she wins her first-round match. The Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches will be played on Friday with the Championship Match taking place on Saturday morning. The 2013 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships are being played at Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium and Western Michigan University's Sorensen Courts and the event is being hosted by Kalamazoo College.
Fausett will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 22-2 overall singles record this school year. She is one of three American Southwest Conference individuals selected to compete in the event, joining Casey Johnson of U.T.-Dallas and Sofia Vega of Texas Lutheran University. This marks just the second time in UMHB tennis history the Cru has sent players to the NCAA Individual Championships. The doubles team of sisters Mallory and
