Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team placed six players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference and All-West Division teams released today. Senior
Will Summers was voted ASC West Division Player of the Year and head coach
James Cohagan was named ASC West Division Coach of the Year. The Cru placed one player on the ASC All-Conference Team, put one singles player and one double team on the All-West Division First Team, and had four singles players and a doubles team on the All-West Division Second Team. UMHB had one singles player earn Honorable Mention All-West Division.
Summers took ASC West Division Most Valuable Player honors, claimed a spot as the only ASC West Division Player selected to the All-Conference Team and also earned spots on the All-West Division First Team at both #1 singles and #2 doubles. Summers, a senior from Belton High School, went 7-2 in dual match play at #1 singles this spring. He was also a three-time ASC West Division Player of the Week selection.
Summers teamed with
Collin Davies for First Team All-West Division honors at #2 doubles. The pair teamed for a 6-1 record in that position this spring.
Jake Stamps, Davies, Jimmy Turner and
John Martin all earned Second Team ASC All-West Division honors in singles. Stamps, a junior from LaPorte High School, took #2 singles honors after going 5-4 in that position this spring. Davies, a junior from Pasadena, claimed #3 singles honors after posting a 6-4 record. Turner, a junior from Travis High School, went 4-5 to earn selection at #4 singles. Martin, a sophomore from Lehman High School, was 4-4 to earn #5 singles honors.
Stamps and Turner also took Second Team All-West Division honors at #3 doubles. The duo recorded a 3-3 mark for the Cru this spring.
Tevin Ogo was named Honorable Mention All-West Division at #6 singles. Ogo, a sophomore from Copperas Cove High School, posted a 4-5 dual match record in that position this spring.
Cohagan was voted ASC West Division Men's Coach of the Year after leading the UMHB men to their first ASC West Division title and hosting rights for the ASC Tennis Championship Tournaments. The Cru finished 7-3 overall and went 5-0 in ASC West play this spring. UMHB advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the fourth straight year before falling to eventual conference champion U.T.-Dallas in the Semifinals.
Josh Ramirez of Schreiner University was named West Division Freshman of the Year. Schreiner's Austin Carrola took West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year honors.
