Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team placed three players on the D3football.com All-American Team released over the weekend. The Cru had one First Team selection, a Second Team pick and one Third Team honoree.
Bryson Tucker was honored as an All-Purpose player on the All-American First Team. Tucker, a senior defensive back/running back from Caldwell High School, finished the season with 43 total tackles and had 27 solo stops. He also posted 3.5 tackles for loss, broke up three passes and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Tucker also spent five games at running back, rushing for 558 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass, returned a punt for a score while averaging 11.1 yards per punt return and averaged 18.2 yards per kickoff return. Tucker also finished his career as the only player in UMHB history to account for a touchdown in six different ways: rushing, receiving, passing, punt return, kickoff return and fumble return.
Brett Parker, a senior cornerback from Richmond Foster High School, earned Second Team All-American honors. Parker tied a UMHB single-season record with six interceptions this season and he also broke up a team-high 16 passes. Parker added 46 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. He also forced a fumble and averaged 10.4 yards per punt return.
Dustin Davis, a junior center from Harker Height High School, was named to the All-American Third Team. Davis helped clear the way for a UMHB rushing attack that averaged 320.8 yards per game and 6.1 yards per rushing attempt. The Cru also surrendered just eight sacks on the season.
The Cru finished the 2009 season with 10-2 overall record and UMHB shared the American Southwest Conference championship with Mississippi College after both teams went 7-1 in league play. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the sixth straight year and joined Mount Union as the only two programs in the country to advance to at least the Second Round of the playoffs in six straight seasons. The Cru fell to Linfield College 53-21 in a Second Round game this season.
