Belton, TX - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball player Joseph Villegas has been named All-West Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Villegas, a junior outfielder from Hays High School, was voted Second Team All-Region by West Region coaches.
Villegas led the Cru with a .465 batting average this season and was second on the team with six home runs and 39 RBI. Villegas added team highs with 72 hits and 47 runs and he also had six doubles, five triples and a team-best 19 stolen bases. Villegas also became just the second player in UMHB history to go over 200 career hits when he pushed his total to 204 this season. Villegas was also voted ASC First Team All-West Division this season and earned All-American honors from D3baseball.com this season, as well.
The Cru baseball team finished the 2009 season with a 22-17 overall record. UMHB finished 12-9 in ASC play and advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the third straight season before falling to Mississippi College in a first-round series
