Softball places nine on All-West Division Teams

Belton, TX - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed nine players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division teams released today. The Cru had three First Team selections, placed four players on the All-West Second Team and added a pair of Honorable Mention All-West picks.

First baseman Courtney Johnston and pitchers Kelsey Greeson and Mandy Staton were all First Team ASC All-West Division selections. Johnston, a junior from Fort Worth Brewer High School, batted .321 for the Cru with two home runs and 19 RBI. She also tied for the team lead with nine doubles and scored 22 runs on the year. Greeson, a junior from Belton High School, led the Cru with an 11-10 record and a 2.88 ERA. Greeson also recorded a team-high 94 strikeouts in 138.1 innings pitched. Staton, a senior from Temple High School, posted an 8-9 record and a 3.09 ERA. She also recorded 74 strikeouts and pitched 99.2 innings on the season.

Second baseman Erica Salazar, third baseman Karen Fertitta, outfielder Caitlin Wells and designated player Megan Bohne were all Second Team All-West Division selections. Salazar, a junior from San Antonio Churchill High School, batted .306 with two home runs and 19 RBI. She had a team-best 13 extra-base hits on the season and led the Cru with 23 runs scored. Fertitta, a senior from Beaumont Westbrook High School, batted .259 with 13 RBI. Wells, a freshman from Spring High School, led the Cru with a .348 batting average and 24 RBI. She also stole six bases and scored 18 runs. Bohne, a sophomore designated player from A&M Consolidated High School, batted .313 with a home run and eight RBI despite missing the final 16 games of the season with an injury.

Shortstop Delani Hurst and outfielder Sara Roman were both named Honorable Mention All-West Division. Hurst, a freshman from L.D. Bell High School, batted .301 with 18 RBI. She also stole a team-best eight bases on the season. Roman, a sophomore from St. Joseph's High School in Bryan, batted .232 with seven RBI. She also walked a team-high 24 times and posted an on-base percentage of .393 on the year.

The Cru softball team finished the season with a 20-20 overall record and UMHB went 13-11 in ASC West Division play. This is the third All-West Division selection for Fertitta and Salazar. Bohne, Greeson and Roman are all two-time All-West Division picks. This is the first All-West Division selection for Johnston, Staton, Wells and Hurst. The honors stop at the divisional level softball, the ASC does not select an All-Conference Team.
