Men's tennis wins three titles at Cru Spring Classic

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team won three titles and lost in the title match of another as the Cru closed out play at the Cru Spring Classic Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men posted wins at flight two singles, flight three singles and flight one doubles. The Cru also had a player fall in the championship match of flight one singles.
            In flight two men's singles, UMHB's Will Summers won the title with a 7-6(5), 6-4 victory over UMHB teammate Garrett Pekar. The Cru also won a battle of teammates in flight three singles, with Daniel White taking the title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Cru's Alex Graham.

            In flight one men's singles, UMHB's Ramon Aguirre fell to Santiago Padilla of Our Lady of the Lake 7-6(4), 6-2 in the championship match. The Cru's Josh Pownall fell to Alexander Reinsch of Southwestern University 6-4, 6-3 to close out the bracket.

            In flight one men's doubles, UMHB's White and Pownall teamed up for an 8-2 win over Reinsch and Dart Bebel of Southwestern University in the championship match. Graham and Aguirre fell to Kuda Sengai and Padilla of Our Lady of the Lake 8-6 in the third place match.

            In flight two men's doubles, UMHB's Pekar and Summers finished with a 3-0 record. The duo topped Michael Ramirez and Ricardo Garcia of Our Lady of the Lake 8-2 to open the day. The two players closed out the day with an 8-3 win over Andrew Olsson and Nate Roberts of Southwestern University.

            The Cru men will return to action with a 1:30 home dual match against LeTourneau University on Thursday at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center. That match will also be the spring opener for the UMHB women.
