Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team improved its undefeated streak to 6-0 with a 3-2 win over Mississippi College Friday in Belton. The Cru improves to 6-0 on the season and opens conference play at 1-0 while the Choctaws fall to 6-4 and 0-1 in ASC action.
Melanie Benner gave the Choctaws an early lead in the 24
th minute of play with an unassisted goal.
Ashley Teague came off the bench for the Cru and scored off an assist from
Maizey Cardy in the 36
th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Teague found the back of the net again with just more than a minute left in the first half to give UMHB a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Kathryn Parker gave UMHB some security and a 3-1 advantage in the 60
th minute with a goal just out of reach for Mississippi College. Macey Lee converted a penalty kick in the 78
th minute to cut UMHB's lead to one goal. The Cru withheld a strong offensive surge by the Choctaws to end the game and preserved the 3-2 win.
Parker, Teague and
Miranda Aleman led the Cru with three shots each, while
Briana Hester added two. UMHB outshot the Choctaws 13-8 in the match. Cardy and Sophie Sanchez both recorded assists.
Courtney Craig, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, earned the win in the goal for the Cru, allowing two goals and saving four.
The Cru will return to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match against Louisiana College in Belton.
