Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference teams released today. The Cru had four players named to the All-ASC First Team, one player was named to the both the Second Team and Third Team and UMHB also had an Honorable Mention All-Conference pick. Head coach
Brad Bankhead was also voted ASC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.
Daniel Green, Bo Baker, Trevor Shoppach and Mark Miller were all voted to the All-Conference First Team. Green, a senior defender from Abilene High School, is the top defender for the Cru and helps anchor a defense that has allowed just 11 goals on the season. Green also has two goals and four total points on the season. Baker, a junior midfielder from Burleson High School, is tied for the team lead with seven goals and he also has a team-high five assists for 19 total points. Baker has also scored five game-winning goals on the year. Shoppach, a sophomore forward from Cedar Park High School, is tied with Baker for the team lead with seven goals. He also has an assist for 15 total points and has also scored five game-winning goals on the year. Miller, a junior goalkeeper from Wichita Falls Rider High School, has a team-record 11 shutouts on the season and is holding opponents to a 0.61 goals against average. Miller has 80 saves and has allowed just 11 goals in 1618:57 minutes spread over 18 matches on the year.
Chris Gilham was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Gilham, a senior defender from Midway High School, joined Green as the team's top defenders. He also scored a goal and had two total points on the season.
Kyle Dickey was voted to the All-Conference Third Team. Dickey, a sophomore midfielder from Hobbs, New Mexico High School, finished with two goals and was tied for second on the team with four assists to post eight total points during the season.
Andrew Carrasco earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Carrasco, a freshman midfielder from Corpus Christi King High School, was third on the team with four goals and he also added two assists for 10 total points on the year.
Bankhead earned Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Cru to a 14-3-1 overall record and an 11-2 mark in ASC play. UMHB won the ASC regular season title and also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship. Both of those are firsts for the UMHB men's soccer program and the Cru also achieved the highest national ranking in the program's history by climbing as high as #16 in the country this season.
This is the second All-Conference honor for Baker and Green. Shoppach, Miller, Gilham, Dickey and Carrasco are all making their first appearance on the ASC All-Conference Teams. The Cru will host Hardin-Simmons University for a first-round match in the NCAA Tournament tomorrow at 1:00 PM at the Cru Sports Plex.
