Men's golf finishes in 6th place at California Lutheran Invitational

Lompoc, CA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team fired the lowest team round on the second day of the tournament and the Cru moved up three spots to claim a sixth place finish at the Kingsmen Invitational Tuesday in California. The UMHB men finished with a 326-322-310=958 team total and the Cru came in 40 strokes behind team champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' team total of 295-308-315=918. Redlands took second place with a 306-317-311=934, La Verne finished third after shooting 309-305-321=935, Master's claimed fourth place after carding a 317-311-312=940 and Linfield College finished fifth with a 316-310-316=942. UMHB also finished ahead of American Southwest Conference rivals McMurry University, Texas Lutheran University and Hardin-Simmons University in the 15-team field. The two-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 7,105-yard layout at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, California.
            Johnathan Sustaita posted the top individual finish for the UMHB men after shooting 83-74-76=233 to tie for 11th place. Spencer Turner fired a 79-85-73=237 and his final round 73 was the low individual round of the tournament for the Cru. Turner tied for 19th place. Garrison Nordt posted an 81-83-80=244 and tied for 34th place, Ryan Berry shot 83-83-81=247 and tied for 46th and Mike McQuaid finished with an 87-82-82=251 for UMHB to tie for 55th place. Claremont's Tain Lee won the individual title after posting a 68-76-77=221.

            The Cru will have one more tournament before defending its ASC Championship at the ASC Championship Tournament. UMHB will return to action with the West Region Invitational on April 12th and 13th at Teravista Golf Course in Round Rock.
