Women's Golf in second place at LeTourneau Spring Classic

Longview, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team fired its best team round of the spring and the Cru women are in second place after the opening round of the LeTourneau University Spring Classic Monday in Longview. The Cru women fired a 326 team total and trail first-place McMurry University's 323 by just three strokes. Tyler Junior College is in third place with a 331, Texarkana Community College fired a 335 for fourth place, Schreiner University is in fifth place after posting a 345, tournament host LeTourneau University shot 347 for sixth place and Texas Lutheran University's 369 is good for seventh place. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,812-yard layout at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview.
            Courtney Nelson fired the low individual round of the day for the UMHB women. Nelson is tied for fifth place after recording an opening-round 78. Christi Williams shot 80 for the Cru and is tied for seventh-place, Alexandra Taylor shot 81 to tie for 10th place, Mallory McAdams is tied for 12th place after carding an 82, Allison Williams posted an 86 to tie for 18th and Catherine Andrews is tied for 25th place after firing an 89. McMurry's Monica Harris has the individual lead after shooting 75 on Monday.

            The tournament will wrap up with 18 more holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. The tournament is the final tune-up for the UMHB women before the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on April 19th and 20th.
