Round Rock, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team slid one spot in the standings on the final day and the Cru men took sixth place at the West Region Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Round Rock. The UMHB men posted a 313-314-313=940 and finished 60 strokes behind tournament champion U.T.-Brownsville's 285-290-305=880. Trinity University took second place after shooting 307-304-288=899, tournament host Southwestern University finished with a 296-310-301=907 for third place, Texas Lutheran University claimed fourth place with a 306-309-310=925 and Concordia Texas finished in fifth place, 14 strokes ahead of UMHB with a 315-312-299=926. California Lutheran finished in seventh place with a 301-327-313=941 and McMurry University rounded out the field with a 324-314-312=950 team total. The two-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 7,040-yard layout at Teravista Golf Course in Round Rock.
Mike McQuaid posted the best individual finish for the UMHB men, tying for 18th place after shooting 75-80-75=230. Ryan Berry finished in 25th place with an 80-75-79=234, Johnathan Sustaita posted a 78-81-77=236 and tied for 27th place, Bryce Myburgh shot 80-78-81=239 and tied for 30th place, Garrison Nordt tied for 34th place after posting 80-78-82=240, Taylor Holleyman tied for 37th with an 83-76-82=241 and Spencer Turner took 48th place with an 82-82-87=251. Chris Milligan of U.T.-Brownsville won the individual title with a 69-70-73=212, nine strokes ahead of the rest of the field.
The tournament was the final tune-up for the UMHB men before the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. The ASC Tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday at Horseshoe Bay Golf Course in Marble Falls. The UMHB men are two-time defending ASC champions.
