Marble Falls, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team put together the top two individual rounds and the Cru has a seven stroke lead after the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Monday in Marble Falls. The UMHB women posted a 335 total to lead second-place Schreiner University's 342 by seven shots. McMurry University is in third place with a 344, defending ASC champion U.T.-Tyler fired a 345 and is in fourth place. LeTourneau University posted a 352 on Monday for fifth place, Texas Lutheran University's 368 team total is good for sixth place and U.T.-Dallas is in seventh place with a 426 total. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,912-yard layout at Horseshoe Bay Resort.
Mallory McAdams has the overall lead after shooting a 79 for the Cru women in just her fourth tournament of the spring. She posted one birdie and nine pars on the day. McAdams leads teammate Christi Williams and LeTourneau's Leslie Lee by one stroke after each of those players shot 80 on Monday. Allison Williams fired an 87 for UMHB and is tied for 13th place, Courtney Nelson carded an 89 and is tied for 17th place and Catherine Andrews is in 24th place after shooting 91 for the Cru women.
The tournament wraps up with 18 holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with an 8:30 AM shotgun start. The ASC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The UMHB women have won seven ASC titles, but the Cru women have not advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships since 2006.
