Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team fell behind during doubles and never recovered as Mississippi College posted a 5-1 victory over the Cru in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Belton. The loss ends the Cru's season at 8-7 on the spring. Mississippi College improves to 13-5 on the spring with the victory.
The Choctaws swept through doubles to take a 3-0 lead. UMHB trailed 4-1 at #3 doubles before fighting back to push it to 9-7. Cory Seay would post a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #1 singles before UMHB's
Will Summers claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win at #2 singles for the only point of the match for the Cru. John Downing then posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at #5 singles to clinch the match. UMHB did win the first set in two of the three matches still on the court when the match was decided.
The Choctaws will now advance to tomorrow's semifinals to face Hardin-Simmons University at 9:00 AM at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center on the UMHB campus. The loss ends the Cru's season and the UMHB careers of seniors
