U.T.-Tyler men's tennis beats McMurry 5-0 in ASC Tournament Semifinals

Belton, TX – The University of Texas at Tyler men's tennis team swept through doubles and the Patriots grabbed two victories at #2 and #3 singles to clinch the match as U.T.-Tyler posted a 5-0 win over McMurry University in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Saturday in Belton. The Patriots improve to 17-6 on the spring with the victory. The loss ends the War Hawks season at 19-4.
 
U.T.-Tyler opened the match with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles and then added an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles. The Patriots completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at #3. Adam Chirhart took #3 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over McMurry's Bryan Rainwater and Henrique Bellini clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #2 singles. McMurry won the first set at #1, #4 and #6 singles, but could not nail down a win before the match was decided.
 
The Patriots will now advance to tomorrow's Championship Match against Hardin-Simmons. That match is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center. The start time was moved up from 1:00 PM due to concerns about the weather. U.T.-Tyler is the three-time defending ASC Champion. McMurry's season comes to a close with the loss and it was also the final match in the playing careers of War Hawk seniors Adam Ewing, Daniel Olivares and Tony Williams.
