Taylor O'Rear has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association's All-West Region Team. The team was announced during the NGCA awards banquet at the NCAA Division III National Championships Wednesday night in Angola, Indiana.
O'Rear, a freshman from Salado High School, leads the UMHB women with an 80.61 stroke average this season. She won the individual championship at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a ten-stroke victory over teammate
Sara Eckert. That victory was one of five top finishes for O'Rear this season. She also posed runner-up finishes at the Schreiner University Fall Classic and the Southwestern University Invitational. Her play has helped lead the Cru women to five tournament championships on the year and UMHB is back in the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second straight year and eighth time overall.
O'Rear enters Thursday's third round of the NCAA Division III National Championships tied for 39
th place individually with an 80-81=161 total. The Cru women are in fifth place in the team standings entering Thursday's play with a 317-315=632 team score. Fourteen-time defending national champion Methodist University leads the tournament with a 310-310=620.
