Belton, TX – Kyle Shipp has been named full-time assistant coach for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team, Cru head coach
Ben Shipp announced today. The younger Shipp returns to his alma mater as just the third full-time assistant coach for UMHB baseball since the program made the move to NCAA Division III and will have a chance to work alongside his father, who took over the reins of the program earlier this month.
“This is really exciting for me,” Kyle Shipp said. “I've always said that UMHB feels like home since I literally grew up here. Every time I came back to visit, you could feel the excitement. Now to have the chance to come back and put on the purple, white and gold is an incredible opportunity for me”

Kyle Shipp returns to UMHB after spending the last five years as an assistant baseball coach at Southwestern University in Georgetown. He worked with the Pirate catchers and also served as the team's hitting coach during his last two seasons. Southwestern had catchers lead the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in runners caught stealing twice in the last five years under his direction. Kyle Shipp is a 2007 graduate of UMHB and was a four-year letterman for the Cru baseball program. He was a four-year starter at catcher and a three-time American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference selection. Shipp earned UMHB Male Senior Athlete of the Year honors in the spring of 2007 and was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also won the Fred Jacoby Award, presented by the ASC and representing leadership, sportsmanship and academic excellence.
Kyle and his wife, Tiffany, have a son, Gehrig. Shipp will start his duties at UMHB on Monday, May 21
st. The Cru baseball team went 21-17 overall and finished 11-10 in ASC West Division play last season.
