U.T.-Tyler women's tennis beats Schreiner in ASC Tournament

Belton, Texas- The University of Texas at Tyler women's tennis team overcame multiple rain delays to post a 5-1 victory over Schreiner University in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Belton.
 
U.T.-Tyler breezed to 8-2 wins at #2 doubles (Haley Albro and Jessica Blundell) and #3 doubles (Emily Evans and Nicole Musngi) before Schreiner returned from a rain delay to get a 9-7 win at #1 doubles from the team of Leanna Haynes and Shelby Thompson. Albro rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #6 singles, Blundell posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at #2 singles and Janae Warren clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #5 singles. Schreiner won the opening set at #4 singles, but U.T.-Tyler led the other matches when the match was clinched.
 
The Patriots improve to 14-9 on the year with the victory and will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 10:00 AM Semifinal match on Saturday. The loss ends Schreiner's season at 10-7.
