Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team put seven runs on the board in the first three innings and then held on for a 7-4 victory over Texas Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improves to 17-16 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Rams to 20-19 on the year.
Texas Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead on a UMHB error in the top of the first inning, but the Cru answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Josh Fredrick singled home a pair of runs to open the scoring.
Seth Lynn added an RBI single and
Josh Shaw drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt to make it 4-1.
Chris Joshlin walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second and Fredrick added another RBI single to give the Cru a 6-1 lead.
Ryan Swindell scored on an error in the bottom of the third to give UMHB a 7-1 lead. Texas Wesleyan would cut it to 7-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth. Morgan Marr's two-run single was the biggest hit of a Ram inning that featured three hits and two UMHB errors. That would be it for the scoring as both pitching staffs settled down and worked out of jams later in the game. The Cru would leave nine runners on base and the Rams stranded 12.
Adam DuBose went seven innings for the Cru to move his record to 1-0. DuBose scattered 10 hits, struck out two and allowed just three earned runs. Lance Parker took the loss for TWU to drop to 1-3 on the year. Fredrick was 2-2 with three RBI for UMHB and
Alfredo Melendez had three hits and
Morgan Sloan added two safeties for the Cru. Nick Schrock, Adam Resendez, Kyle Frasard and Marr all had two hits apiece for Texas Wesleyan.
The Cru will now travel to Brownwood for a three-game American Southwest Conference West Division series at Howard Payne University this weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 2:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
