Crusader Stadium | Opened September 21, 2013
Crusader Stadium opened in a 35-7 win over fifth-ranked Wesley College on September 21, 2013. The game was the first on-campus game in the history of Cru Football with a school-record crowd of 9,384. It is also the largest home crowd to ever watch an American Southwest Conference football team play.The game also featured a fly-over and post-game fireworks, as well. Crusader Stadium hosted ten UMHB football games in its inaugural season as the Cru played a school-record ten home games. The Cru played in front of 41,563 in the first season. Crusader Stadium was designed by the renowned architecture firm, Populous.
The varsity locker room features 80 individual wooden lockers with individual ventilation systems to help dry shoulder pads. There is also an auxiliary locker room for use by the Crusader junior varsity, a plush visitor's locker room and coaches locker rooms and training rooms to go with each team locker room. Each locker room is fully wired for cable television and video. A large multi-purpose room is located adjacent to the varsity locker room and can be used for team meetings, video sessions, media interviews or even smaller banquets. The visitor and auxiliary locker rooms are also used for the numerous high school regular season or postseason games hosted at Crusader Stadium. The service level of the stadium also includes an equipment storage and issue room to serve the Cru on game-day and functions along with the Cru's practice facility at Cummins and Andersen Field Houses.
The press box features a state-of-the-art control room to handle audio, video board, replay, scoreboard and all game-day communications. There is a separate print media booth with seating for up to 14 writers. Three separate broadcast booths can accommodate radio or television broadcasts and home and visiting coaches also have their own booths with two-tiered seating to provide outstanding views of the field. The Presidential suite offers prime seating and stadium views, along with space to serve, entertain and feed special guests of the UMHB administration. Two other suites are available for game-day use by the administration, donors or sponsors.
