Football ranked 5th in final D3football.com Top 25 Poll

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team finished the 2011 season ranked 5th in the nation in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll. UMHB dropped one spot to #5 and totaled 524 points in the final D3football.com Top 25 Poll of the year. National Champion Wisconsin-Whitewater took all 25 first-place votes and 625 total points for first place, with national runner-up Mount Union taking second place with 600 total points. Wesley College was third with 568 points and St. Thomas (MN) finished fourth with 551 total points. UMHB was joined in the top 25 by American Southwest Conference rival McMurry University. The War Hawks were 14th with 252 total points.
 
The Cru finishes the season ranked in the top five nationally for the fourth time in the last five seasons. UMHB was ranked third in the country in the final 2007 and 2008 polls before ranking eighth in the country in the final D3football.com Top 25 Poll of 2009. The Cru was also fifth in the nation in last year's final poll.
 
The Cru finished the 2011 season with a 12-1 overall record and won the ASC championship with an 8-0 league mark. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships and won two games before falling to Wesley 27-24 in the National Quarterfinals. The Cru joins Mount Union as the only two Division III programs in the country to have advanced to at least the Second Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships in each of the past eight seasons.
