Final Results
BROWNWOOD, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team made a run on the final day, but there was just too much ground to make up as the Cru took second place in the team standings at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday in Brownwood. UMHB freshman
Sydney McConnell did win individual medalist honors in the tournament.
The Cru fired a final round 321 to finish at 324-321=645 and climb two spots into second place on Tuesday. UT Dallas won its first ASC women's golf title by firing a 306-320=626 to top UMHB by 19 strokes. UC-Santa Cruz finished in third place after carding a 315-337=652, East Texas Baptist took fourth place after shooting 320-335=655 and Concordia Texas closed out the top five with a 339-341=680 team total. LeTourneau University finished in sixth place with a 343-359=702 and Hardin-Simmons rounded out the seven-team field with a team score of 371-372=743.
McConnell fired a final round 74 and finished with a 77-74=151 to edge Lindy Patterson of UT Dallas (76-76=152) by one stroke to win the individual championship. McConnell is the 12
th individual ASC champion in UMHB women's golf history.
Jade Ming finished in ninth place for the Cru after posting 79-83=162,
Jo Tiger carded an 83-82=165 to tie for 11
th place,
Sarah Kmiecik tied for 16
th place with an 85-82=167 and
Lily Self finished in 23
rd place with an 85-86=171 total. McConnell was also named to the ASC All-Tournament Team following the event.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played on a par-72, 5,890-yard layout at The Hideout Golf Club in Brownwood. UT Dallas also clinches the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships by winning the conference title. The Cru will have to hope for an at-large bid to the tournament when the field is announced on May 3
rd.
