BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team named two athletes to the D3football.com All-America teams, released Thursday.
Durand Hill was named D3football.com First Team All-America Defense while
Mason Cavness earned Third Team All-America Defense.
Hill, a senior linebacker from Buda, led the Cru with 103 tackles this season. He tallied 56 solo takedowns with nine solo tackles at Hardin-Simmons (Nov. 30) and a season-high 13 tackles at East Texas Baptist (Oct. 5). Hill totaled six games with double-digit tackles and eight games with at least one tackle for loss. He totaled 13 tackles for 52 yards lost on the season with 5.5 sacks for 29 yards lost. Hill also forced a duo of fumbles with four fumble recoveries and four interceptions, totaling eight turnovers on the year. He added seven pass breakups and a pair of fourth-down conversions with one pass completion (31 yards) and one rush (30 yards).
Cavness, a senior defensive lineman from Marathon, finished the season with 52 total tackles, 27 solo. He added 14 tackles for 50 yards lost with 2.5 sacks accumulating 27 yards lost. Cavness also added forced fumbles against East Texas Baptist (Nov. 2) and Howard Payne (Nov. 16). He tallied four quarterback hurries on the season and forced a safety against Howard Payne (Nov. 17). Cavness totaled at least two tackles in all 11 games played with tackles for loss in 10 of them.
This is Hill's fourth All-America honor and second from D3football.com. He was also named Associated Press Second Team All-America, First Team All-American Southwest Conference and D3football.com First Team All-Region 3 this season. Cavness earned his first All-America award this season in addition to his all-region and all-conference honors.
