BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor named six athletes as sport-specific 2025-26 Distinguished Scholar-Athletes of the Year, announced Monday.
The conference also recognized a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team in each championship sport, honoring student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement while serving as a starter or key reserve for their team. Members of each sport's Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team comprised the ballot for the overall Distinguished Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which were voted on by the conference's sports information directors.
Distinguished Scholar Athletes
Baseball - Easton Cline | Junior | Exercise and Sport Science | 3.93
Cline earned a pair of 4.0s this year, boasting a 3.93 grade-point average as an exercise and sport science major at UMHB. Cline is the epitome of a student-athlete. His demeanor both on and off the field set the example for not only the baseball program but also all athletes at UMHB. Cline started in 42 games this season, hitting .294. He totaled 47 hits with eight extra-base slams, including two home runs. Cline drove in 30 total runs with 31 runs scored. He earned 24 walks at the plate, stealing 12 bases. His work ethic, humble attitude and dedication to both his sport and his studies are unmatched.
Men's Golf - Cole MacMillan | Sophomore | Supply Chain Management | 3.946
MacMillan earned a perfect 4.0 in the spring 2026 semester, boasting a 3.946 as a sophomore. He was a First Team All-ASC, ASC All-Tournament and PING All-Region selection, helping the Cru to a 68-stroke win at the ASC Championship. MacMillan and the Cru earned six team wins this season with MacMillan taking the individual titles at the Texas Tri-Tourney and West Region Invitational. He was also the top performer at the national tournament, placing 36th with a 291 (+4) across four rounds. MacMillan carded two rounds of par or better in the national tournament. He ended his sophomore campaign ranked 10th nationally with a second-place rank in the region. MacMillan averaged a 71.8 on the season, totaling 18 rounds of par or better with 102 birdies and three eagles.
Women's Golf - Brooke Norman | Senior | Business | 4.00
Norman played an instrumental role in helping the Cru win the 2026 ASC Championship. She shot a 76-77-78=231 (+15), taking second place in the tournament by just one stroke. Norman's tournament was arguably the best of her career. She competed in six tournaments this season with two top-five finishes. She carded a season-low 75 (+2) at the Chick-fil-A Invitational.
Men's Soccer – Peyton Hoyt | Senior | Pre-Dental | 3.85
Hoyt was named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ASC this season. Hoyt anchored a UMHB backline that limited opponents to just 21 total goals this season, the lowest among ASC members. UMHB's defense gave up just 184 shots on the season and only 86 on frame. Hoyt also added five goals on the season with one assist, scoring three-game winners. He was also a CSC Academic All-District and CSC Academic All-America selection. Hoyt also serves as president of UMHB's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He helped the Cru to a regular season title in 2025 before suffering a season-ending injury just ten minutes into the championship contest.
Softball - Addy Todd | Freshman | Nursing | 4.00
Todd earned a 4.00 during her first semester as a college athlete. She ranked second on the team with a .317 batting average, adding a .927 OPS. Todd started in all 39 games played, tallying 33 hits with 28 runs scored. She added 11 doubles and five home runs, adding 24 total RBI on 61 total bases. Todd added nine stolen bases with seven sacrifice hits. As a shortstop, she had 56 putouts and 94 assists, contributing to 10 double plays.
Men's Tennis - Edgar Mayorga Calva Jr. | Senior | Finance | 4.00
First Team All-ASC at No. 3 Singles and No. 3 Doubles. Calva went 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play, earning two wins at No. 2 Singles and one at No. 3 Singles. He totaled nine singles wins on the season. Calva and doubles partner Alec Rule also earned all-conference honors after going 6-4 at No. 3 doubles with a 3-0 record in conference action. He helped the Cru to a regular-season title and earned both singles and doubles wins in the ASC Semifinal before suffering an injury in the final.
Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team
Zach Engels | Senior | Finance | 3.515
Engels earned a 4.00 in the fall semester with a 3.67 in the spring, bringing him to a 3.515 overall during his collegiate career. In his senior year, he came back from an injury that took him out most of junior year. Under a new head coach, Engels assumed leadership roles both on and off the court. His on-court presence peaked as he tallied more than 200 minutes than he had in any other season. Engels started in all 29 games, scoring 446 total points for a 15.4 average. He added 227 rebounds, averaging 7.8 per game with 78 assists, 13 blocks and 41 steals. He led the team in steals and rebounds, finishing second in points. Engels was also a First Team All-ASC selection, an ASC All-Tournament Team member and earned the ASC Scholar Athlete Medal of Honor. Under his leadership, UMHB won another American Southwest Conference title and went to the NCAA Second Round.
Joshua Young | Sophomore | Exercise and Sport Science | 3.48
Young was a First Team All-ASC selection this season and qualified for the NCAA Division III Regional Meet. He placed fifth at the American Southwest Conference Championships, finishing with a 27:28.05. His performance helped the Cru to a second-place finish in the meet.
Will McClintock | Senior | Health Science | 3.97
McClintock rejoined the UMHB football team in week three and helped the Cru to a co-conference championship. He earned a 4.00 in his last semester of undergrad, graduating with a health science degree and a 3.97 GPA in December 2025. McClintock also earned a 4.0 in his first semester as a graduate student in spring 2026. He was a First Team All-ASC, CSC Academic All-District and Second Team All-Region selection this season. McClintock caught 12 passes for 208 yards, adding one touchdown.
Natalia Galvan | Freshman | Health Sciences | 3.79
Galvan earned a 3.79 as a freshman student-athlete. She was an ASC All-Freshman team member, leading the team in three-point percentage and free throw percentage. Galvan totaled 165 points with nine blocks and 30 steals on the season. She also drained 31 three-pointers.
Drea Gibson | Sophomore | Exercise Physiology | 3.89
Gibson holds a 3.89 as a sophomore exercise physiology major at UMHB. After a 20-year career in the United States Army with five combat tours, Gibson is earning her undergraduate degree. She was UMHB's top runner this season despite fighting injury. Gibson finished fifth at the ASC Championship with a 24:44.2. She also qualified for the NCAA Division III West Region meet.
Kaysen Miller | Freshman | Mechanical Engineering | 4.00
Miller hit 133 kills in her first season with the Cru. She added one assist and 13 service aces, putting up 93 digs and 19 total blocks. She was a Second Team All-ASC honoree and serves as the team's SAAC rep.
Kaitlynn Neill | Junior | General Studies | 4.00
Neill holds a 4.00 as a general studies major at UMHB. She was a CSC Academic All-District selection, playing in and starting all 19 games. Neill tallied 1,494 minutes on the back line, adding two assists. UMHB's defense limited opponents to just 19 goals on the season with nine shutouts. She was also instrumental in helping the Cru win the 2026 regular season title.
Bailee Lane | Junior | Biology | 3.89
Lane was an ASC First Team Flight 3 Singles and First Team Flight 1 Doubles selection. Lane collected seven doubles wins and nine singles victories this year. She went 3-0 in ASC singles play with a 2-1 record in doubles. She also helped the Cru to the 2026 regular season championship and the program's first-ever conference title.
