Jordan Cox joined UMHB as Head Men’s Golf Coach in 2016. Cox has led the Cru to four ASC titles ('17, '21, '22 and '25) during his tenure with four NCAA Championship appearances and an individual NCAA appearance. He has also earned three ASC Coach of the Year awards ('17, '22 and '25).
Cox’s win in the 2022 American Southwest Conference Men’s Golf Championship also marked his 18th career win, making him the winningest coach in program history. He was also named one of five finalists for the NCAA DIII GCAA/Golf Pride National Coach of the Year Award in 2022 and 2017. The team also named 13 to the ASC All-Academic team that season.
Immediately prior to joining UMHB, Cox served five seasons in a second stint as boy’s and girl’s golf coach at Shiloh Christian School of Northwest Arkansas and his eighth overall at the school. He also served as Dean of Students. He led the Saints Boys team to the Arkansas 4A State Championship in 2014 and the Girl’s team to a 3rd place finish. Each of those respective teams collected three consecutive conference championships in addition to two other conference titles earned in his initial time at the school. In 2015 Cox was named 4A Boy’s and Girl’s Conference Coach of the Year and placed four student-athletes on the All-State Team.
Cox served three years as Assistant Women’s Golf Coach at Baylor University between his two runs at Shiloh. He was the first assistant coach in program history. He helped lead the Lady Bears to back-to-back NCAA appearances, just the second and third postseason appearances in program history. Known as a genuine personality, outstanding recruiter, teacher, and communicator he helped attract some of the best talent in the world to Baylor, including players who have played or continue to play on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour or Ladies European Tour.
He passed the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America’s Playing Ability Test in 2004 and has worked as a certified instructor at the Heart of Texas Golf Academy in Waco, TX.
Cox is the basketball play-by-play announcer for UMHB Men’s and Women’s Basketball. He was a professional radio and television sportscaster for over 20 years working for the CBS affiliate (KWTX-TV) in Waco, TX and ABC affiliate (KRDO-TV) in Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as several radio outlets in each of those markets. He has won numerous awards as sports anchor, reporter, and radio play-by-play announcer. He was the first “Voice of the Lady Bears” at Baylor University.
From 1997 to 2004, Cox, who is an ordained minister, served as sports pastor at several large churches in Texas and Arkansas. From 1994-1997 he served as the Executive Director of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. He has also held posts as Director of Communications and Training for Upward Unlimited, Inc., a national youth sports organization, and as an adjunct professor in the Communications Studies Department at Baylor University. In 1990 he became a licensed private pilot.
Cox is a 1986 graduate of Baylor with a degree in Radio/TV/Film. He earned a Master’s Degree in American Studies from Baylor in 2011. Cox and his wife, Kristy, (Baylor ’89) have two daughters, Jordan Lee (John Brown University ’15) and Ryley, (University of Mary Hardin-Baylor ’19).
