James Cohagan, in his 33rd year at UMHB, is a graduate of Corsicana High School. He did his undergraduate work at Southwestern University in Georgetown. He then earned his masters from Baylor University. During his time at UMHB, Cohagan's teams have won 6 Conference Championships while producing 12 All Americans and 8 Academic All-Americans. He also coached the Aarhus sisters, Megan and Mallory, to an NCAA Division III National Championships berth in the spring of 2010 and Brittni Fausett earned a singles berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships in 2013. James has served on the National Tournament Committee of the NAIA Tennis Coaches Association for 9 years. Coach Cohagan was also named American Southwest Conference West Division Women's Co-Coach of the Year in the spring of 2000 and swept ASC West Division Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors following the 2013 season. James and his wife Susan have two daughters, Candace and Emily.
The UMHB women won the ASC West Division title for the first time in school history in 2011 and the Cru also earned the right to host the ASC Men's and Women's Championship Tournament for the first time in the history of the program. The Cru women reached a regional ranking of 13th in the spring of 2011, representing the highest single season ranking for the Cru since the program made the move to NCAA Division III play. Both the UMHB men and women won ASC West Division titles in 2013 and the school hosted the ASC Championship Tournaments for the second time in three years.
