Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will make its longest road trip of the season as the Cru once again travels outside American Southwest Conference play this weekend. UMHB will take on Southern Oregon University in a 3:00 PM Central Time kickoff this Saturday in Ashland, Oregon. The Cru will take a 5-0 overall record into that game and UMHB is ranked #4 in the country by the American Football Coaches Association and #5 nationally by D3football.com. Southern Oregon is 2-4 on the season and the Raiders have lost four in a row after opening the year with two victories. The all-time series is tied 1-1 after UMHB knocked off SOU 21-0 last season in Belton. But the memory of the Raiders' 40-28 victory in the initial meeting between the two teams in 2008 is still fresh in the minds of the Cru, especially head coach
Pete Fredenburg.
“We remember the last trip we made to SOU and they were just more physical than we were that day,” Fredenburg said. “We also made some mistakes as coaches and we will get that corrected. We know what to expect going up there and what we will be in for. This game really has no impact on us making the playoffs, but it has a tremendous impact on the psyche of this team. We need to be prepared to go win a football game and be prepared to move this team along. We have to be prepared to play at a fever pitch every week and we have to prepare that way no matter who we are playing.”
The Cru is 2-2 all-time in the state of Oregon, but UMHB has lost its last two games in that state. The Cru also dropped a 53-21 decision at Linfield College in the Second Round of last year's NCAA Division III National Championships in addition to the 2008 loss at Southern Oregon. Saturday's game will be broadcast locally on KTEM 1400 AM and the UMHB athletic department will offer a live audio stream of the broadcast at
