Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team took grabbed early leads in both games and never looked back as the Cru posted a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner University Friday afternoon in Belton. UMHB won game one 6-2 and took game two 5-2 to improve to 10-12 overall and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. Schreiner falls to 6-15 overall and 2-6 in the ASC with the two losses.
            The Cru jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning of game one and then responded to Schreiner's comeback attempt in a 6-2 victory. Brittany Moreno's solo home run in the bottom of the second made it 1-0 UMHB and the Cru stretched it to 3-0 on Erica Salazar's two-run double in the bottom of the third. Emily Meyer would hit a two-run double of her own to pull Schreiner to within 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but UMHB answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jessica Oliver scored the first run on a wild pitch and Moreno added an RBI single to make it 5-2 UMHB. Kelsey Greeson added an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to provide the final margin for the Cru. Hannah White (1-3) picked up the win for UMHB with a complete-game, four-hitter. She struck out eight, walked four and allowed two runs. Rebecca Hay took the loss for Schreiner to drop to 4-7 on the year. Moreno, Salazar and Caitlin Bollier had two hits apiece for UMHB and Moreno and Salazar also drove in two runs apiece. Rachel Herzog had two of the Mountaineers four hits.

            The Cru would grab the lead in the fifth inning of game two on the way to a 5-2 victory. UMHB scored twice in the fifth to grab a 2-0 lead. Sara Roman singled home the first run for UMHB and Greeson added a sacrifice fly. Schreiner cut the lead to 2-1 on Hay's RBI double in the top of the sixth, but UMHB put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the frame. Megan Bohne ripped a two-run homer to left field and Salazar added an RBI double for the Cru. Herzog blasted a solo homer to center field in the seventh inning to cut it to 5-2, but that's as close as the Mountaineers would get. Greeson pitched a complete-game, five-hitter to raise her record to 4-5 on the season. She struck out three and walked two. Allyson Morris took the loss for Schreiner. Salazar had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack for the Cru.

            The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow at Dee Dillon Field. UMHB will then hit the road for a four-game ASC West Division series at Sul Ross State next Wednesday and Thursday in Alpine.
