Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team erupted for big innings in both games and the Cru rolled to a pair of run-rule victories to sweep a doubleheader from Schreiner University Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB took game one 13-0 and won game two 11-2. The Cru improves to 12-12 overall and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the two victories. Schreiner falls to 6-17 overall and 2-8 in the ASC West Division with the two losses.
UMHB took control of game one with a seven-run first inning as the Cru rolled to a 13-0 victory.
Caitlin Bollier started the scoring with an RBI single and
Erica Salazar followed with a two-run double.
Sara Roman added a two-run single,
Kelsey Greeson followed with an RBI single and Roman stole home for the final run of the inning.
Jessica Oliver's two-run single in the third made it 9-0 UMHB and the Cru added four runs in the fourth. Salazar singled home the first run, Roman added a sacrifice fly and
Austin McCormick and Oliver added RBI singles to close out the scoring.
Erica White threw a complete-game, one-hitter to move to 6-3 for the Cru. White struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Emily Meyer's single in the top of the third provided the only base-runner of the game for the Mountaineers. Salazar and Oliver had two hits and three RBI apiece and Roman also added three RBI for the Cru.
UMHB bounced back from an early deficit to post an 11-2 win in game two. The Mountaineers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. UMHB answered with a five-run second inning.
Courtney Johnston and Greeson had RBI groundouts, Roman added a two-run single and Oliver singled home the final run. The Cru added two more on back-to-back solo home runs from
Megan Bohne and
Brittany Moreno in the bottom of the third to make it 7-2. Salazar blasted a two-run home and Greeson added a two-run double to end the game on the run-rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hannah White tossed a complete-game, six-hitter for UMHB, striking out five and walking just two to raise her record to 2-3 on the year. Bohne was 3-3 for UMHB and Salazar went 2-2 for the Cru.
The Cru will now travel to Alpine for a four-game ASC West Division series at Sul Ross State next week. The two teams will open the series with a 5:00 PM doubleheader next Wednesday before closing out the week with a 2:00 PM doubleheader on Thursday. The series was moved to avoid a conflict with the Easter holiday.
