Alpine, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team erupted for big innings in both games and the Cru rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State University Wednesday night in Alpine. UMHB took game one 8-1 and won game two 17-1 to improve to 14-12 overall and 10-0 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The two losses drop the Lobos to 1-27 overall and 1-13 in ASC play this season.
            The Cru broke open a tight game with a 12-run fourth inning in a 17-1 game two victory. UMHB took a 3-0 first inning lead on Caitlin Bollier's RBI single, Megan Bohne's RBI triple and Lindsey Gordon's RBI single. The Lobos cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the second before Gordon added another RBI single in the top of the third to make it 4-1. Jessica Oliver started the scoring in the fourth with an RBI double, Bollier added a two-run double, Brittany Moreno doubled home Bollier and Courtney Johnston added a two-run single. Austin McCormick then blasted a two-run homer, Bollier added a two-run triple and Bohne closed out the scoring with a two-run homer. The Cru tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth inning on Kaysie Creech's RBI single. Erica White held the Lobos to two hits over four innings to raise her record to 7-3. White struck out three and walked just one and Kirstie Curry added an inning of one-hit relief for UMHB. Bollier finished with three hits and five RBI for the Cru and McCormick and Creech added three hits apiece. Oliver, Bohne, Moreno and Gordon had two hits each in a 19-hit UMHB offensive attack.

            The Cru took control of game one with a five-run second inning and UMHB cruised to an 8-1 victory. Jordan Schrutka doubled home the first run and Erica Salazar followed with a two-run single. Kelsey Greeson added an RBI groundout and Oliver singled home the final run of the frame. Sara Roman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 6-0 UMHB in the top of the third and Salazar added an RBI double in the top of the fifth to give the Cru a 7-0 lead. The Lobos would cut it to 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but Gordon scored on a throwing error in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin. Greeson pitched a complete-game, four-hitter for UMHB to even her record at 5-5. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Salazar and Schrutka had four hits apiece for the Cru and Salazar drove in three runs.

            The two teams will close out the series with a 2:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Alpine. UMHB will then return home to host Texas Lutheran University for a four-game ASC West Division series next Friday and Saturday at Dee Dillon Field.
