Round Rock, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team bounced back from a tough, extra-inning loss in game one to post a narrow game two victory as the Cru split a doubleheader with Concordia Texas Friday night in Round Rock. UMHB dropped a 3-1, 8-inning decision in game one before winning game two 4-3. The Cru moves to 24-14 overall and 20-2 in American Southwest Conference West Division play following the split. The game two victory also clinches the ASC West Division title for UMHB. Concordia is now 23-13 overall and 17-5 in the ASC West on the season.
UMHB took an early lead and then held off Concordia's late rally for a 4-3, title-clinching victory in game two.
Megan Bohne's solo home run in the top of the second inning gave the Cru a 1-0 lead.
Jordan Schrutka walked with the bases loaded in the top of the third to make it 2-0 UMHB and
Kelsey Greeson's sacrifice fly in the top of the third made it 3-0 Cru. Concordia would cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but UMHB added a run when
Jessica Oliver was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning to make it 4-1. Concordia would push across a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before
Erica White came in to close out the rally and earn her second save of the season.
Hannah White earned the victory for the Cru to move her record to 6-3 on the year.
The two teams took a 1-1 score into the bottom of the eighth inning of game one before Concordia won it with a walk-off two-run home run. The Tornados grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Schrutka tied it with an RBI double in the top of the second inning. Neither team could push across another run until Lauren Vansickle blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Concordia the victory.
Erica White tossed a complete-game for the Cru, but took the loss to drop to 9-4 on the season.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Belton. Both teams will then advance to next weekend's ASC Championship Tournament in Lewisville. The Cru will have a first round bye and will open play on Friday morning at 11:00 AM. The West Division title is the second in the last three years for the UMHB softball team. Concordia will be either the #2 or #3 seed from the ASC West Division.
