Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team bounced back from a 1-0 game one loss with a 1-0 win of its own in game two to salvage a doubleheader split with Concordia Texas Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB finishes the regular season with a 25-15 overall record and the Cru went 21-3 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. Concordia finishes the regular season at 24-14 overall and 18-6 in the ASC West Division.
Jordan Schrutka's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning provided all of the offense Erica White would need in UMHB's 1-0 game two victory. White took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Jana Tritz singled to right field to break it up. Concordia would load the bases with one out in the top of the sixth inning on a walk and back-to-back singles. But White pitched out of it with a popout and a groundout to keep the game scoreless. UMHB broke through for its only run of the game when Schrutka's one-out single drove in Jessica Oliver in the bottom of the sixth. White would give up a two-out walk in the top of the seventh, but ended the game with a groundout to raise her record to 10-4 on the season. White scattered three hits, struck out four and walked three in the shutout victory. Haylee Staton pitched a three-hitter of her own for Concordia, giving up one run and walking two to drop to 10-5 on the year. Schrutka had two of UMHB's three hits in the game.
The Cru could not find enough offense to overcome Concordia's fourth-inning run in a 1-0 game one loss. Erin Duhon's RBI single in the top of the fourth provided the game's only run and Kat Moreno made it stand up in the circle for the Tornados. UMHB would leave two runners on base in the third, fourth and sixth innings, but could not scratch across a run. Kelsey Greeson took the loss for the Cru to drop to 8-7. Greeson gave up just five hits, striking out nine and walking one. Moreno tossed a two-hitter for Concordia to raise her record to 7-3. She struck out six, but walked five batters.
Both teams will now advance to next weekend's ASC Championship Tournament in Lewisville. The Cru won the ASC West Division for the second time in three years to earn the #1 Seed from the West Division. UMHB will get a first-round bye before opening play on Friday morning.
