Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not recover from a pair of three-run innings as the Cru dropped a 7-5 decision to Concordia Texas Friday afternoon in Belton. UMHB falls to 14-16 overall and 6-7 in American Southwest Conference West Division play with the loss. The Tornados improve to 14-17 overall and 7-6 in the ASC West with the victory.
            Concordia grabbed a 1-0 lead on Michael Bogard's RBI single in the top of the first inning and the Tornados stretched it to 4-0 with a three-run top of the third. Alec Carter singled home the first run and C.J. Riojas added a two-run homer for Concordia. UMHB pulled to with 4-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on Andrew White's two-run double. The Tornados would add three more in the top of the fifth on an error and Riojas' two-run homer. UMHB cut it to 7-3 with Chris Joshlin's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and the Cru closed to within 7-5 on Ryan Moreau's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout ended the threat with a runner in scoring position for UMHB.

            Chance Ryan (3-2) took the loss for the Cru after scattering six hits and giving up four earned runs in four and a third innings. Ben Whiteley (3-1) picked up the win for Concordia with seven innings of five-hit pitching. Doak Fleming had two of UMHB's eight hits in the game. Riojas, Pedro Maldonado and Justin Beasley had two hits apiece to pace a 12-hit attack for the Tornados.

            The two teams will close out the series with a 12:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow at Red Murff Field. The Cru will then host Texas Wesleyan University for a 2:00 PM non-conference game next Tuesday.
