Lewisville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not come up with enough offense to overcome Louisiana College's hot start and the Cru fell to the Wildcats 3-0 in an elimination game at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Saturday in Lewisville. The loss ends the Cru's season at 26-17 overall. UMHB was making its 11th overall appearance in the ASC Championship Tournament. Louisiana College improves to 39-6 on the year with the victory. The Wildcats also advance to face U.T.-Tyler in the ASC Tournament championship game at 2:00 PM.
The Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Ashleigh Clement's RBI double. LC would load the bases with one out, but the Cru was able to get out of the jam without the Wildcats scoring again. UMHB would put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the first, but the Cru could not push across a run. LC would add a pair of insurance runs in the third inning on Leslie Eastham's sacrifice fly and Devan Greene's RBI single. That would be more than enough offense for Wildcat pitcher Rene Schwartzenburg. Schwartzenburg held the Cru to just two hits and walked a pair of hitters. She raised her record to 25-2 on the season, striking out five.

Erica White took the loss for UMHB to drop to 11-5 on the season. White scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out one in a complete-game performance. Kelsey Greeson and Caitlin Bollier had the only two hits of the game for the Cru. Greene, Mary Alice Roy and Jodi Montagnino all had two hits apiece for the Wildcats.

UMHB will now have to hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. If the Cru does not receive a bid, the loss will close out the careers of four UMHB seniors. Courtney Johnston, Kelsey Greeson, Jessica Oliver and Erica Salazar all played their final games as members of the Cru. UMHB's Erica White and Caitlin Bollier were named to the ASC Championship Tournament All-Tournament Team. LC's Rene Schwartzenburg was named ASC Tournament MVP after the Wildcats swept a pair of games from U.T.-Tyler to claim the ASC championship.
