Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not hold on to a ninth-inning lead as the Cru lost a 7-6 heartbreaker to U.T.-Tyler to close out a three-game weekend sweep of UMHB by the Patriots. The Cru also fell to U.T.-Tyler 6-0 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. UMHB is now 0-4 to start the season. U.T.-Tyler improves to 3-0 on the year with the sweep on Saturday.

UMHB fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning of game two before Derek Draeger's solo home run in the top of the second cut it to 2-1. The Patriots would add a run in the fourth to push the lead to 3-1 before the Cru put three on the board in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The first two runs scored on a fielding error and Braden Embry doubled home the go-ahead run. UMHB would stretch the lead to 6-3 on Josh Fredrick's RBI single and Draeger's RBI double in the top of the seventh. U.T.-Tyler scored one in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-4 and set the stage for the game-winning rally in the bottom of the ninth. After a pair of singles to lead off the inning, a UMHB error on a bunt attempt scored one run and put runners on second and third. A walk would load the bases and Justin Juneau slapped the game-winning single back up the middle to get two runs home. Trevor Alaniz took the loss for the Cru to drop to 0-1 on the season. Draeger was 3-3 with two RBI and Embry, Zach Young and Chris Joshlin all had two hits apiece for UMHB. The Cru outhit the Patriots 12-8, but UMHB also committed six errors in the game.

In game one, the Cru never found enough offense to overcome U.T.-Tyler's four-run first inning in a 6-0 game one loss to the Patriots. U.T.-Tyler put together a walk and four hits to grab a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Justin Juneau's two-run double was the biggest hit in the frame. Jake Ashley would add a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-0 and that would be more than enough for the Patriots. The Cru managed just three hits in the game, with three different players getting one hit apiece. Cameron Arnett took the loss for UMHB to drop to 0-1 after giving up six runs and seven hits in four innings of work. Chad Sherman tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout for the Patriots to move to 1-0 on the season. Nick Clifton had two of U.T.-Tyler's seven hits in the game.

The Cru will now return home to host Trinity University in a 2:00 PM single game next Tuesday at Red Murff Field. UMHB will then host Concordia Texas for a 1:00 PM non-conference game next Saturday.
