Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team broke open a tight game with a seven-run second inning and the Cru rolled to a 15-5 victory over Southwestern University Tuesday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 9-9 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Pirates to 8-11 on the year.
The Cru took a 1-0 lead on
Braden Embry's RBI single in the bottom of the first before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Zach Crosswhite started the scoring with an RBI single,
Zach Young followed with an RBI single, Embry added a two-run single and
Josh Fredrick closed out the scoring with a three-run home run. The Cru stretched it to 10-0 in the third on
Ricky Brenek's RBI groundout and another RBI single from Embry. Southwestern scored two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 10-2, but UMHB added five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Seth Lynn added an RBI single,
Seth Mogavero drew a bases-loaded walk, Brenek drove in the fourth run of the inning with a fielder's choice and Young closed out the frame with an RBI single. The Pirates would add two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to cut it to the final margin.
Embry went 4-4 with four RBI for the Cru and Young added three hits and two RBI. Araujo and Mogavero also had two hits apiece in a 17-hit UMHB attack. Five Cru pitchers combined on a nine-hitter with
Andy Evans picking up the win to raise his record to 2-1 on the year. Ross Meyer came off the bench to post two of the Pirates nine hits. Russell Kelly took the loss for Southwestern to drop to 0-1 on the year.
The Cru will now return to American Southwest Conference West Division play with a three-game series at McMurry University this weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 7:00 PM single game on Friday night before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
