Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team never recovered from an early deficit and the Cru ended up losing two games to McMurry University Saturday, the regularly scheduled game and Friday night's suspended contest. The Cru fell 5-0 in the completion of the suspended game before dropping a 13-3 decision in the second game. UMHB falls to 9-11 overall and 1-4 in American Southwest Conference West Division play with the two losses. McMurry improves to 5-14 overall and 2-3 in the ASC West with the two victories.

The Cru never generated enough offense to overcome an early 3-0 deficit in the 5-0 loss in the completion of Friday's suspended game. McMurry grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a triple and run-scoring balk. Andrew Bell stretched it to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. The game was suspended in the top of the fourth after a two-hour lightning delay. McMurry then added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to provide the final margin. UMHB managed just five hits off Zack Hewitt (3-1). Josh Fredrick had two of the Cru's five hits in the loss. Cameron Graham took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-2 on the season. Graham gave up nine hits and five runs while striking out six in six innings of work.

The Cru fell behind early in game two and never bounced back in a 13-3 loss. McMurry grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. UMHB cut it to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the second on a throwing error and Seth Mogavero's RBI single. But McMurry added two in the bottom of that frame, one more in the third, five in the fourth and two in the sixth to push the lead to 13-2. Ricky Brenek's solo home run in the seventh provided the final run for the Cru. Chance Ryan took the loss for UMHB to drop to 4-2 on the season. He gave up nine hits and 10 earned runs in three and two-thirds innings of work. Brenek, Fredrick, Mogavero and Reinaldo Araujo had two hits apiece for the Cru in the game. Jordan Mattke picked up the win for McMurry with eight innings of 10-hit pitching to even his record at 1-1 on the season.

The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM single game tomorrow. UMHB will then return to action with a three-game ASC West Division series at Texas Lutheran University next weekend in Seguin.
