Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team bounced back from a heartbreaking game one loss with a big offensive performance to win game two and salvage a split of a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon in Seguin. UMHB fell 6-5 in game one before bouncing back with an 8-1 win in game two. The Cru is now 11-13 overall and 3-6 in American Southwest Conference West Division play following the split. Texas Lutheran moves to 16-11 overall and 6-3 in the ASC West on the season.

The Cru took control of game two with a four-run second inning on the way to an 8-1 victory. Ricky Brenek opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly before the TLU defense started to struggle. UMHB added three more second-inning runs on errors to make it 4-0. The Bulldogs would cut it to 4-1 in the bottom of the third, but UMHB answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 7-1. Josh Fredrick had his second sacrifice fly of the game to score the first run and a TLU error led to a second run on that play. Chris Joshlin would close out the inning with a run-scoring single. UMHB added one more run on Joshlin's RBI single in the eighth. Cameron Arnett scattered five hits and allowed only an unearned run in six innings to raise his record to 3-1 for the Cru. Danny Horstman went the final three innings to pick up his first collegiate save for UMHB. Fredrick, Joshlin, Brenek, Zach Young and Seth Mogavero all had two hits apiece for the Cru to lead a 13-hit attack.

UMHB fought back from an early deficit, but could not overcome TLU's two-run, sixth-inning rally in a 6-5 loss in game one. The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead with a three-run bottom of the first, but UMHB answered with three runs in third on Fredrick's three-run home run. Seth Lynn added a solo homer in the fourth to make it 4-3 UMHB. TLU tied the game in fifth before Lynn's RBI single in the top of the sixth but the Cru on top 5-4. Daniel Yancelson's RBI single tied the game at five in the bottom of the sixth and the game-winning run scored on a throwing error by UMHB. The Cru then went in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game. Chance Ryan took the loss for UMHB to drop to 4-3 on the season. Fredrick and Lynn had two hits apiece for the Cru.

UMHB also won Friday's game to give the Cru a 2-1 series victory. It is the first series win for the UMHB baseball team in Seguin in 15 years. The Cru will continue its road trip with a non-conference doubleheader at Austin College on Tuesday at 3:00 PM in Sherman. UMHB will then return home to host Schreiner University for a three-game ASC West Division series next weekend at Red Murff Field.
