Farmers Branch, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team never recovered from Mississippi College's five-run first inning and the Cru fell to the Choctaws 6-4 in the finale of the opening day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament Friday in Farmers Branch. The loss drops UMHB to 6-4 on the season. Mississippi College improves to 7-1 on the year with the victory.

UMHB grabbed a 2-0 lead on Hannah White's two-run single in the top of the first inning. But the Choctaws erased that lead with a five-run bottom of the first. Morgan Harpole's grand slam was the biggest hit in an inning that featured three hits and a pair of walks. Ashton Feight's RBI bunt single pulled the Cru to within 5-3 in the top of the second inning. Jordan Giesen added an RBI single in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Choctaws added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and that's as close as the Cru could get.

White took the loss for UMHB to drop to 2-3 on the season. She scattered four hits over five innings, but walked eight batters while striking out three. Feight and Kaysie Creech had two hits apiece for UMHB in a nine-hit attack.

The Cru will close out the tournament with two more games tomorrow. UMHB will take on LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist University on the tournament's final day. The Cru will then play a non-conference doubleheader at U.T.-Dallas on Monday.
