Austin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not recover from Concordia's three-run eighth inning and the Cru dropped a 6-4 decision to the Tornados Friday night in Austin. The loss drops UMHB to 14-15 overall and 5-8 in American Southwest Conference West Division play on the season. Concordia improves to 17-12 overall and 9-4 in the ASC West with the victory.
 
The Cru grabbed a 1-0 lead on Chris Joshlin's RBI single in the top of the first inning. Concordia would tie the game on a run-scoring error in the bottom of the second inning. UMHB would retake the lead on Zach Young's RBI double in the top of the fifth. It would stay that way into the bottom of the seventh before Brent Schaekel reached on a two-out error. Colton Gommert followed with an RBI double and scored on Justin Beasley's triple to make it 3-2 Concordia. UMHB responded with Braden Embry's RBI double and Seth Lynn's RBI single in the top of the eight to give the Cru a 4-3 lead. Schaekel's RBI groundout in the bottom of the eight tied the game at four and Beasley followed with a two-out, two-run single to give the Tornados a 6-4 lead. UMHB would put runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout ended the threat.
 
Sam VanHoozer took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-2 on the season. VanHoozer gave up two runs on two innings in one inning of relief work. Chance Ryan allowed just one earned run on six hits in six and a third innings of work. Sean Thompson picked up the win for Concordia with one inning of scoreless relief to even his record at 1-1 and Bryant Hernandez struck out the only batter he faced to earn his third save. Young, Joshlin and Josh Fredrick had two hits apiece for the Cru. Gommert, Beasley and Ryan Brown had two hits apiece for the Tornados.
 
The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Austin. UMHB will then play non-conference games at Arlington Baptist and U.T.-Arlington next week before returning to ASC West Division play with a three-game home series against Howard Payne University next weekend.
