BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will face a familiar opponent as the Cru hosts an NCAA Division III National Championships Quarterfinal game against Wesley College this Saturday. The Cru will face the Wolverines for the second time this season and eighth time in the last eight years. UMHB handed Wesley its only loss of the season on Sept. 15th in a 32-25 victory in Dover (DE). The two teams have met in the postseason six times, with Wesley holding a 4-3 all-time advantage over the Cru. The Wolverines ended UMHB's season the past two years, with a 27-24 victory in the Quarterfinals last year in Belton and a 19-9 victory in the 2010 Quarterfinals in Dover.
The Cru will enter the game ranked second in the country in both national polls and is 12-0 on the season after knocking off Franklin College 63-17 in the Second Round last Saturday. Wesley College is ranked fifth in the country in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll and sixth in the D3football.com poll. The Wolverines are 10-1 on the year and have won eight straight games, including a 56-6 decision over Cortland State (NY) in last Saturday's Second Round contest.
“We have a lot of respect for Wesley as a program because we know first-hand what they are capable of,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “Games like this, when the whole country is watching, are fun to play in. This is what we have been working for all season.”
The winner of Saturday's game advances to the Semifinals to face either Mount Union or Widener for the right to advance to the National Championship. UMHB will provide a free live video stream and live statistics for Saturday's game at the following link:
