Baseball edges ETBU 7-5 in 11 innings

Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team pushed across two runs in the top of the 11th inning as the Cru posted a 7-5 victory over East Texas Baptist University Friday night in Marshall. UMHB improves to 4-3 on the season with the win. The loss drops the Tigers to 3-5 on the year.

ETBU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Cru answered with three runs in the top of the third. Braden Embry tripled home two runs and scored on Zach Young's single. The Tigers scored two more in the bottom of the third, but UMHB answered on Justin Gregory's RBI single in the top of the fifth. Chris Florack's sacrifice fly in the top of the eight gave the Cru a 5-4 lead, but the Tigers tied it again in the bottom of that frame. It would stay that way into the 11th before Young singled home the go-ahead run and Gregory added an insurance run with a safety squeeze bunt. The Tigers put a runner on base in the bottom of the 11th but could not push across a run.

Florack, Josh Fredrick and Chris Joshlin had three hits apiece for UMHB. Jaime Theriot earned the win for the Cru with four innings of four-hit relief pitching. UMHB out hit the Tigers 16-10 in the game.

The two teams close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow. The Cru will then play a non-conference game at Southwestern University next Tuesday.
