Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball roared back in the final two innings to post a game two victory to bounce back from a tough loss in game one as the Cru salvaged a split with East Texas Baptist Saturday in Marshall. UMHB is now 5-4 on the season. The Tigers move to 4-6.
UMHB saw an early four-run lead slip away only to storm back in the final innings for a 10-9 win in game two. The Cru put four runs on the board in the top of the first, highlighted by
Braden Embry's two-run homer. UMHB added a run in the second and another in the fourth before the Tigers put four runs on the board in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Cru scored one in the sixth, but ETBU answered with three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-7 lead.
Zach Crosswhite and
Seth Lynn drew bases loaded walks in the top of the eighth to tie the game.
Chris Florack homered leading off the top of the ninth to give UMHB a 10-9 lead and
Chance Ryan set the Tigers down in order in the bottom of the ninth. Ryan earned the win to move to 2-0 on the year. Joshlin had four hits for the Cru and Young added two more.
UMHB lost game one 6-5 on a two-out walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Cru led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the second and third, but a three-run bottom of the third put ETBU up 3-2. UMHB put three of its own on the board in the top of the fifth on back-to-back homers from
Josh Fredrick and Joshlin along with a run-scoring error. The Tigers put two on with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before Cayden Cunniff blasted a three-run homer for the game-winner.
Kel Shannon took the loss for the Cru.
Seth Mogavero and Young had two hits apiece.
The Cru will return to action with a road, non-conference game at Southwestern University next Tuesday. UMHB will then return home to host University of the Ozarks for a three-game series next Friday and Saturday.
