Georgetown, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team stormed out to an early lead and never looked back as the Cru raced to a 12-1 victory over Southwestern University Tuesday afternoon in Georgetown. UMHB improves to 6-4 on the season with the win. The loss drops the Pirates to 4-11 on the year.
The Cru took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on
Tim Yan's RBI single and
Cody Emerson's run-scoring squeeze bunt. Southwestern cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of that inning, but UMHB broke it open with three runs in the third.
Chris Joshlin singled home a run and scored on
Braden Embry's two-run homer. A run-scoring error and a sacrifice fly made it 7-1 in the top of the fourth.
Josh Fredrick blasted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to give UMHB a 9-1 edge and
Chris Florack closed out the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh. The game was ended after seven innings on the run rule.
Chase Daniels scattered three hits over six innings to earn the win for the Cru.
Seth Lynn had four hits for UMHB, Fredrick and
Zach Young had three hits apiece and Florack and Yan both had two to key a 17-hit UMHB onslaught.
The Cru will now return home to host the University of the Ozarks for a three-game series this weekend. The two teams are scheduled to play a 6:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
