Baseball falls to U.T.-Tyler 9-6

Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not hold two early lead as the Cru dropped a 9-6 decision to U.T.-Tyler in non-conference action Tuesday in Belton. UMHB falls to 10-8 on the season with the loss. The Patriots improve to 15-4 on the year with the victory.
 
The Patriots bunched four singles together, including three infield hits to grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. UMHB answered with three in the bottom of the first on RBI singles from Seth Mogavero, Braden Embry and Zach Young. Chris Florack walked, stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 Cru in the second. Tyler tied the game with solo home runs in the third and fourth innings. UMHB retook the lead 5-4 on Seth Lynn's RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth. The Patriots tied the game and then took a 7-5 lead on Aaron McCain's two-run single in the top of the sixth. Florack tripled and scored on Embry's sacrifice fly in the seventh to cut it to 7-6, but the Patriots added some breathing room with two runs in the top of the ninth. Derek Miller set down UMHB in the ninth to clinch the win for U.T.-Tyler.
 
Kreece Cooper took the loss for the Cru to drop to 0-1 on the season. Tye Weber earned the win for U.T.-Tyler to move to 1-0 and Miller notched his fourth save of the year. Mogavero and Chris Joshlin had two hits apiece for UMHB. Isaac Tijerina had for hits and McCain added two hits and three RBI for the Patriots.
 
The UMHB baseball team will continue its home stand with a three-game American Southwest Conference West Division series against Howard Payne University this weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 7:00 PM single game Friday night before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
