Abilene, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball held off a late game one rally, but the Cru's comeback fell just short in game two of a doubleheader split with Hardin-Simmons University Saturday in Abilene. UMHB won game one 6-5 and then fell by that identical score in game two. The Cru is now 13-11 overall and 4-5 in American Southwest Conference West Division play on the season. The Cowboys move to 10-11 overall and 4-5 in the ASC West on the year following the split.

UMHB used a four-run fifth inning to take control of game one and then held off a Cowboy rally to post a 6-5 victory. Chris Florack's RBI double gave the Cru a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Seth Mogavero stole home in the top of the fourth to make it 2-0 before HSU tied the game on a two-run homer from Chris Matthews in the bottom of the fourth. Florack's bases loaded walk in the top of the fifth opened the scoring and gave the Cru a 3-2 lead. Mogavero followed with a two-run single and Josh Fredrick's sacrifice fly made it 6-2 UMHB. An RBI single pulled the Cowboys to within 6-3 in the sixth and Troy Tarrant blasted a two-run home run to cut it to 6-5 before Jamie Theriot pitched out of the jam to nail down the win. Taylor Burrow earned the win for UMHB to move to 2-5 and Theriot earned his second save. Joshlin had three hits for the Cru and Mogavero added two more.

UMHB grabbed another early lead in game two, but could not hold on in a 6-5 loss. The Cowboys took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Cru answered with four in the top of the second. Parker Edmonds singled home the first run; Joshlin doubled home two more and scored on Braden Embry's double. Josh Fredrick's solo homer made it 5-2 Cru in the top of the third. The Cowboys answered with one in the bottom of the third and tied the game with two more in the fourth. Tarrant's RBI single drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh. The Cru left runners at first and second in the top of the eighth and at second and third in the top of the ninth. Danny Horstman took the loss for the Cru to drop to 0-1 on the year. Dylan Tepoel had three hits for UMHB and Joshlin, Fredrick and Zach Young added two hits apiece for the Cru.

The Cru will travel to San Antonio Tuesday night for a 7:00 PM non-conference game at nationally-ranked Trinity University. UMHB will then return home to host Concordia Texas for a crucial three-game ASC West Division series next weekend at Red Murff Field.
