Baseball falls to top-ranked Trinity 9-3

San Antonio, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team grabbed an early lead on the nation's #1 team, but the Cru could not hold on through the middle innings in a 9-3 loss to top-ranked Trinity University Tuesday night in San Antonio. The Cru falls to 13-12 on the season with the loss. The Tigers improve to 23-3 on the year with the victory.
 
UMHB grabbed a 1-0 lead on Chris Florack's RBI double in the top of the third inning. The Cru pushed the lead to 3-0 on Dylan Tepoel's RBI groundout and Zach Young's RBI single in the top of the fourth. Trinity tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead on a run-scoring throwing error in the bottom of the fifth. Kelly Woodruff's two-run single put the Tigers up 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth and Trinity put the game out of reach with three more in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Chase Daniels took the loss for UMHB to drop to 2-2 on the year. Seven Cru pitchers combined to scatter 13 hits and strike out five Trinity batters. Franklin Bay picked up the win with two and a third innings of hitless relief for the Tigers. Braden Embry and Zach Crosswhite had two hits apiece for the Cru, combining for four of the team's seven safeties in the game.
 
UMHB will now return home for a crucial three-game American Southwest Conference West Division series against Concordia Texas this weekend. The two teams will open the series with a 7:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
