Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not generate enough offense to overcome Concordia's timely hitting as the 17th-ranked Tornados swept a doubleheader from the Cru Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB fell 8-1 and 9-3 to drop to 13-15 overall and 4-8 in American Southwest Conference West Division play on the season. Concordia Texas improves to 24-6 overall and 10-2 in the ASC West on the year with the two wins.

Concordia took control of game one with eight runs in the first two innings and the Cru never recovered in an 8-1 loss. Andrew Burns singled home two runs and two more runs scored on a throwing error as the Tornados built a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Concordia added three more in the top of the second on RBI singles from Collin Janssen and Colton Gommert and a bases loaded walk before the Cru was able to get out of a bases loaded jam. UMHB cut it to 8-1 on Zach Young's RBI single in the bottom of the second, but the Cru left the bases loaded with a chance to really slice into the lead. Both pitching staffs settled down from there as the teams combined for just one hit over the final five innings. Taylor Burrow took the loss for the Cru to fall to 2-6, but four relievers combined for 5 and two-thirds innings of hitless relief. Tyler Grygar scattered six hits over seven innings to improve to 3-2 for the Tornados.

UMHB could not take advantage of early scoring chances as Concordia pulled away late for a 9-3 victory in game two. The Tornados took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before Zach Crosswhite's RBI fielder's choice cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Concordia added two runs on Nick Kozole's two-run double in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1. Seth Mogavero's two-run single pulled the Cru to within 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but Concordia added single runs in the sixth and eighth and put three on the board in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Cameron Arnett took the loss for UMHB to drop to 3-2 on the year. Chris Joshlin, Chris Florack and Dylan Tepoel had two hits apiece for the Cru.

The Cru will now hit the road for a stretch of seven straight road games. That stretch starts with a three-game series at Sul Ross State next Thursday and Friday in Alpine.
